GEN. VINCENZO CAMPORINI

Gen. Vincenzo Camporini joined the Air Force in 1965 and during the Cold War was an operational pilot, flying the F-104 Starfighter. Thereafter he held several posts as a logistician and as an operational leader in the Air Force central organization..

In the 1999-2001 timeframe he was Policy Director in the General Defence Staff, which he later lead as Deputy Chief of  Staff.

After commanding the National Defence University, he was selected as Chief of the Air Force and from Feb2008 till Jan 2011 he held the post of Chief of Staff, the highest authority in the Italian Defence.

He is now a retired General and presently is the Vice President of Istituto Affari Internazionali, the most prominent Italian think tank in foreign policy.

A graduate in Aeronautical Sciences at the University of Naples Federico II and in International and Diplomatic Sciences at the University of Trieste, Camporini has dealt with the most topical issues of international politics as a scholar and academic, focusing on the political-military dimension of the European Union and the development of its ability to use the military instrument in the framework of its external relations.
