Nicola Coccia (Naples, 13th July 1947) is chartered accountant, certified auditor and international tax advisor with a particular expertise in the shipping business. Ha has been president of the Italian Confederation of Ship-owners, known as Confitarma, from 2005 to 2010.
Education
In 1973 Nicola Coccia graduates in Economics at the University of Naples “Federico II”. In 1974 he becomes chartered accountant and qualified auditor. During the same year he begins his professional activity.
Professional Activity
Nicola Coccia mainly operates in the shipping and maritime business as a tax advisor and expert in international taxing, corporate restructuring, corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions.
From January 1990 to December 2007 he is president and CEO of the company MSC Crociere. During this period he is also Sole Director of SNAV, a company of fast ferries also part of the Aponte group.
During the following years he is a consultant to many important Italian shipping companies and is currently president of Gestioni Armatoriali, a company with a fleet of 3 shipping units.
From 2004 to 2011 Nicola Coccia is president of Terminal Napoli, the company which manages the cruise terminals of the Port of Naples. During these years passenger transits in the port of Naples triplicate, passing from 400.000 passengers in 2004 to over 1.300.000 in 2010.
In 2013 Nicola Coccia founds the “Polo dello Shipping”, a building in the “business district” of Naples which houses containers companies, shipping agencies, tax advisors and lawyers expert in the maritime sector, Italian representatives of International shipping companies, etc..
Institutional charges
Nicola Coccia, together with his professional career, has always carried out an intense activity in worldwide shipping organizations.
In particular, Nicola Coccia has been president of Confitarma from 2005 to 2010, after being vice-president of the confederation for the previous six years. During the years of his presidency, the Italian fleet registers an overall increase of 30%. Within the same organization, Nicola Coccia is also president of the Tax Committee of which he is in charge since 1995.
Nicola Coccia is in the Board of Directors of RINA (Italian Naval Registry) and President of the Technical Committee of the Italian Naval Registry.
